How Our Adoption Process Works

We are a small, home based cattery that raises a limited number of Maine Coon kittens each year. Because of this, we take extra care to get to know every family, answer questions, and make sure each kitten is placed where they will be loved for life.

Our adoption process begins with an application so we can learn about your home, lifestyle, and what you are looking for in a kitten. Once you are approved, a reservation fee holds your place in line for available and upcoming litters. From pregnancy and birth to go home day, we guide you step by step so that bringing your kitten home feels clear, calm, and exciting instead of stressful.

Step by Step Adoption Timeline

Step 1 Submit a Kitten Application

To be considered for adoption, please complete our kitten application. Applications open shortly after a litter is born. Early reservations become available as soon as a new litter is announced, giving families the opportunity for first pick. Selections are made in the order that approved applications are received. Subscribe to our email updates to be notified first when applications open, and add info@kaletinfarms.com to your contacts so you don’t miss the announcement.

Step 2 Reserve Your Kitten

If your application is approved, you will have the opportunity to reserve your chosen kitten. A $1,800.00 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit is required to hold your kitten and will be applied toward the final purchase price. Early reservations are made once a litter is announced, and kitten selections are finalized once personalities and traits begin to show.
All remaining balances must be paid in full at least 10 days before the kitten’s go-home date. Accepted payment methods include PayPal, Zelle, or Venmo.
Note: As required by Texas state law, 8.25% sales tax applies to all kittens sold to Texas residents.

Step 3 Sign the Adoption Agreement

After you reserve your kitten, I will send an adoption contract to be electronically signed by myself and the kitten purchaser. This contract must be signed at least 10 days prior to the kitten’s go home date. This contract includes my 2 year health guarantee against genetic diseases as well as other conditions of sale.

Step 4 Prepare for Your New Kitten’s Arrival

By the time you reserve your kitten, he or she will be ready to go home in about six weeks, at a minimum age of 14 weeks. This gives you time to prepare your home and gather everything your new Maine Coon will need.
We are proudly registered with both TICA and CFA, and all kittens from Kaletin Farms will be registered with both associations.
Make arrangements for pickup or delivery in advance. We do not ship kittens, so pickup will take place at our home in San Antonio, Texas, or you may hire a licensed pet flight nanny to hand-deliver your kitten if you live out of state or internationally.
Start preparing your supplies early. You will need essentials such as food, bowls, toys, scratching posts, a litter box, and grooming tools. For more guidance, please review the Kitten Care and Products We Love sections on our website.
Before your kitten’s go-home date, schedule a veterinary appointment for a wellness exam within 72 hours of pickup. Because veterinarians often have full schedules, it’s best to book your appointment at least 10 days in advance.
We recommend also scheduling your kitten’s Rabies vaccine and third FVRCP booster with your veterinarian, as these will be due shortly after adoption. Your kitten will not receive these vaccinations before going home, as they will still be too young.
Lastly, take some time to choose your kitten’s name. Once registered with TICA and CFA, names cannot be changed within the official registry.

Kitten Pricing, Deposit, and What is Included With Your Kitten

All Kaletin Farms Maine Coon kittens are priced at 4,800 dollars regardless of gender, color, or polydactyl trait. Our focus is on health, temperament, and breed quality, not color or rarity. Each kitten is raised with individual attention and care to ensure they grow into affectionate, confident companions.

Deposit and payment schedule

A deposit of 1,800 dollars is required to initiate the adoption process and reserve your kitten. The remaining balance is due two weeks prior to the scheduled pick up date. Deposits are nonrefundable and are applied toward the total purchase price of the kitten.

Each kitten is raised in a loving home environment and receives hands on socialization to ensure an easy, confident transition into their new family.

Adoption Policies and Buyer Responsibilities

Refund Policy

All payments made to Kaletin Farms are non-refundable, including deposits, payments made toward the kitten’s purchase price, and any related service or delivery fees.
If a kitten is returned, all transportation, medical, and service costs (including but not limited to delivery arrangements) are the sole responsibility of the purchaser and will not be credited toward a replacement kitten.
Written notification of intent to return a kitten must be received within 72 hours of receipt, and the kitten must be returned within 10 calendar days. Failure to do so will void eligibility for any replacement consideration.
Kaletin Farms will only offer a replacement kitten if a genetic health issue is diagnosed by a licensed veterinarian within 2 years (730 days) of the purchase date, as outlined in the health guarantee.

Health Guarantee

Kaletin Farms provides a 2-year health guarantee against inherited genetic diseases. If a kitten passes away within two years from the date of sale or delivery due to a confirmed genetic condition, the purchaser must notify Kaletin Farms in writing and provide a necropsy report from a licensed veterinarian. Once verified, a replacement kitten of equal value will be offered. No monetary refunds, discounts, or credits will be issued. All veterinary and transportation costs are the responsibility of the purchaser.

Each kitten is guaranteed to be healthy to the best of our knowledge at the time of sale. We also provide a 72-hour health guarantee against general illnesses, including but not limited to upper respiratory infections, internal or external parasites, and FELV/FIV.

The purchaser must take the kitten to a licensed veterinarian for a wellness exam within 72 hours of pickup or delivery. If any health concerns are discovered, documentation from the veterinarian must be provided, and the kitten may be returned within seven (7) calendar days of the examination for replacement. No medical, travel, or shipping costs will be refunded or credited.

Our goal is to continually produce healthy, well-adjusted Maine Coons. If your kitten develops any health concerns at any time, please contact us—we are always willing to assist and provide guidance wherever possible.

Other Pets Policy

Kaletin Farms is not responsible for any injury or illness to other pets caused by exposure to your new kitten.

If you have other animals in your home, introduce your new Maine Coon slowly and under supervision. Give each pet time to adjust, and monitor their interactions closely to ensure everyone remains safe and comfortable. Gradual introductions help reduce stress and build positive relationships between your new kitten and existing pets.

Re-homing Policy

Under no circumstances may any Kaletin Farms Maine Coon be sold, leased, or given away to a pet store, animal shelter, research laboratory, breeding mill, or any similar facility.

When you adopt a Maine Coon from us, you are committing to a lifelong companion. However, we understand that unexpected life changes can happen. If you ever find yourself unable to keep your cat, please contact us. We will gladly assist in finding a safe and loving new home, or welcome the cat back to Kaletin Farms ourselves if needed.

Indoor Only Requirement

All Kaletin Farms Maine Coons must be kept indoors and not allowed to roam freely outside.

While Maine Coons are strong and confident cats, they are also gentle and trusting by nature. Allowing them to roam unsupervised exposes them to unnecessary risks such as traffic, predators, parasites, and disease. Outdoor time is encouraged only under direct supervision or in a secure, enclosed area to ensure your cat’s safety and well-being.

Pet vs. Breeder Cat Policy

All kittens sold as pets will be spayed or neutered before leaving Kaletin Farms. This ensures responsible ownership and helps maintain the integrity and health of the breed.

Kittens sold with breeding rights are guaranteed to be fertile and capable of producing at least two viable litters before the age of three years. If, after three breeding attempts with at least two different proven breeder cats, no successful pregnancy occurs, the cat will be replaced by Kaletin Farms with another breeding-quality kitten of equal value.

Declaw Policy

Do not declaw your cat or kitten. Declawing is an inhumane procedure that causes lifelong pain and behavioral issues.

If a kitten or cat from Kaletin Farms is declawed, all health guarantees will be voided. Regular nail trimming and proper scratching posts are the only acceptable methods for managing claw care.

Purchasers agree to notify Kaletin Farms in writing before taking any public action or filing disputes, as long as we continue to uphold all obligations under this agreement. Our goal is to work together to ensure the best outcome for both you and your kitten.
